West Alice Springs have pulled off a remarkable comeback to hand previously unbeaten Pioneer their first loss of the 2026 Central Australian Football League (CAFL) season, winning a thrilling Round 10 clash by just one point after a goal with the final kick of the match.

Trailing by 22 points at three-quarter time, the Bloods produced an outstanding final-quarter surge, kicking five goals to two before Daley Bank snapped the match-winning goal as the siren sounded. The dramatic finish secured a 13.13 (91) to 13.12 (90) victory and capped one of the most memorable matches of the season.

The victory marked West Alice Springs' fourth consecutive win since suffering a narrow defeat to Pioneer earlier in the season. The winning streak has lifted the Bloods into second place on the CAFL ladder, strengthening their hopes of reaching their first grand final since 2015 after years of rebuilding.

Coach Ben Ellis praised his team's determination, describing the comeback as an "unbelievable fight." He highlighted the performances of Fletcha Murphy, Jack Sandry, and Sam Ward, who played key roles in helping West overturn the sizeable deficit during the final quarter. Their composure under pressure proved decisive as the Bloods capitalised on late opportunities to snatch victory.

For Pioneer, the defeat ended an unbeaten start to the season. Despite leading for much of the contest, the Eagles were unable to withstand West's late charge. Coach Matt Campbell acknowledged the challenge of fielding an inexperienced side, with the team missing 10 regular players, but remained optimistic about the club's prospects heading into the latter stages of the season.

Elsewhere in the men's competition, reigning premiers Federal returned to the winners' list by defeating Souths by 13 points, ending a three-game losing streak. Strong performances from Caleb Schwartz, Elijah Walker, and Geordie Lelliott helped Federal regain momentum as the race for finals positions continues.

In the CAFL women's competition, West Alice Springs continued their dominant campaign with a crushing 23.9 (147) to 1.0 (6) victory over Pioneer. Hope Skehan and Iesha Roberg each kicked four goals as West maintained their unbeaten record. Souths also impressed with a 76-point win over Federal, led by a six-goal haul from Ebony Abbott-McCormack.

The dramatic men's result has significantly tightened the race for the minor premiership while confirming West Alice Springs as a genuine finals contender. With confidence building and momentum on their side, the Bloods have emerged as one of the competition's form teams as the season enters its decisive stages.
