Queensland Police have charged an 18-year-old man following an investigation by the Counter-Terrorism Investigation Group into alleged plans involving serious acts of violence in the Gladstone region.

The investigation began after authorities received information through Australia's National Security Hotline on 6 November 2026. The information raised concerns about the possibility of planned violence, prompting specialist detectives to investigate the circumstances.

According to Queensland Police, investigators examined the information received and undertook inquiries to determine the nature and seriousness of the alleged activities.

Police allege that the young man had been making plans for acts of violence that could result in death or grievous bodily harm.

Following the investigation, officers arrested the 18-year-old South Gladstone resident on Friday, 6 November.

He was subsequently charged with one count of planning to cause death or grievous bodily harm.

The charge is being treated seriously because it concerns alleged preparations for potentially life-threatening violence. Counter-terrorism investigators are continuing to examine the available evidence and the circumstances surrounding the case.

Police opposed bail for the accused, and he was expected to appear before Gladstone Magistrates Court on Saturday, 7 November 2026.

Queensland Police have reassured residents that there are currently no known ongoing direct threats to the community or upcoming public events connected with the investigation.

Authorities have also emphasised that the investigation demonstrates the importance of information sharing between members of the public and law enforcement agencies.

The National Security Hotline allows Australians to report suspicious activities or information that could potentially relate to threats to public safety. Police encourage people to report concerns, even when they are unsure whether the information is significant.

Investigators are working with federal and state authorities as part of their broader approach to maintaining community safety.

Residents have been advised to remain alert but should not assume that there is an immediate danger because of this individual case.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the accused is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
