Emergency services were called to a unit block on Church Street in Ryde at about 3:40 PM on Saturday after reports of a fire. Fire and Rescue NSW attended the scene and extinguished the blaze before conducting a search of the building. During the search, officers discovered a body inside a second-floor unit. Police said the deceased is believed to be a man in his 60s, although formal identification has not yet taken place.
