Victoria Police’s Bomb Response Unit was called to a property in Katamatite, in the wider Shepparton region, on Tuesday, September 1, after officers located a suspected device during a police search. Detectives, supported by the Critical Incident Response Team, also seized several items from the property.

Police established an exclusion zone around the rear yard of the Beek Street property, with the street blocked by police vehicles for several hours. Drivers were diverted via Moore Street while officers assessed the situation.

Nearby residents were not evacuated during the operation. The Bomb Response Unit attended as a precaution while police dealt with the suspected device and secured the property.

A 46-year-old man has been charged with firearms and weapons offences and was remanded to appear in court at a later date. The charges are allegations and will be dealt with through the court process.

The incident caused temporary disruption to traffic in Katamatite, but police were able to maintain the exclusion area while specialist officers carried out their work.
