A nationwide recall has been issued for Creative-branded cake decorating lustre dust after a two-year-old boy from the Gold Coast was placed in an induced coma after inhaling and ingesting the product. The metallic decorating powder, sold in Australia since 2019, has been found to contain copper and zinc, which can be harmful if inhaled or swallowed. All five colours of the edible-style lustre dust are included in the recall. The child, Dusty Wildman, became seriously ill after opening a container while his mother, professional baker Katie Robinson, was preparing a birthday cake at home. He was rushed to Queensland Children's Hospital, where he spent several days in intensive care before recovering and being discharged. Health authorities are urging consumers to stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Parents and bakers are being warned to keep cake decorating products out of children's reach and to treat metallic powders with caution.
