Severe coastal erosion at Lancelin is raising growing concerns among residents, business owners and local authorities, with warnings that homes, caravan parks and tourism infrastructure could face increasing risk if long-term solutions are not implemented. Opposition leader Shane Love said there was currently no clear state government strategy to address the issue, despite emergency sand renourishment works already being undertaken along the foreshore. Glen Trebilcock, owner of the Lancelin Sands Hotel, said around 40 metres of land had been lost in the past year due to erosion. The Shire of Gingin acknowledged current sand replenishment efforts were only temporary while broader options are explored. Local concerns intensified after the demolition of a popular coastal lookout in 2025 because of erosion damage. Experts have previously warned that parts of the coastline may continue to erode despite mitigation efforts, with long-term protection likely to require significant investment.
