A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged vehicle attack that occurred immediately after a fatal shooting near Murwillumbah in northern New South Wales. The latest charges were announced by NSW Police on 9 October 2026. NSW Police Public Site

The original incident occurred on 3 December 2025, when emergency services were called to Tyalgum Road in Eungella. Police said two men, aged 38 and 41 at the time, had allegedly been shot by another man. The suspected shooter then reportedly fled the scene with a fourth man.

The 41-year-old victim died at the scene. The younger man suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Following the shooting, detectives from the Tweed/Byron Police District established Strike Force Bray to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. As the investigation progressed, two men, aged 36 and 45, were arrested and charged over their alleged roles in the fatal shooting. Both cases remain before the courts.

Investigators later examined reports that the 45-year-old man had also been injured after being struck by a vehicle during the same sequence of events.

According to police allegations, the then 38-year-old driver entered a Ford Ranger after the shooting and drove onto Tyalgum Road. Police allege that he pursued the 45-year-old man along the road before running him over.

Investigators further allege that the driver was travelling on the wrong side of the road when he struck the man, rather than immediately seeking medical attention for his own gunshot wound.

The Crash Investigation Unit conducted further inquiries into the alleged vehicle attack. On Thursday, 8 October 2026, officers arrested the now 39-year-old man at Murwillumbah Police Station.

He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm while allegedly under the influence.

Police have alleged that the incident involved deliberate pursuit and dangerous driving. These claims will need to be tested through the court process, and the accused man is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The man was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Murwillumbah Local Court on Wednesday, 18 November 2026.

The charges represent a further development in a complex investigation that began with the fatal shooting in December last year. Police are pursuing separate allegations concerning the shooting itself and the subsequent vehicle incident.

The case highlights how investigators can continue examining connected events long after an initial crime scene has been investigated. Crash investigators and detectives have worked on the allegations involving the vehicle alongside the broader shooting investigation.

The next court appearance will allow the legal process to progress. Further details may emerge as the proceedings continue, subject to court restrictions and the evidence presented.
