The father of Kumanjayi Little Baby, Raphael Granites, will remain in custody after appearing before the Local Court in Alice Springs on aggravated assault and domestic violence-related charges. His legal team sought temporary release so he could participate in cultural grieving ceremonies following the death of his daughter, whose disappearance and death shocked communities across Australia. The court denied the request, citing the seriousness of the alleged offending and a history of breaches involving court orders and domestic violence matters. Judge Jonathan Bortoli said the allegations involved a serious assault causing injuries to the complainant. Mr Granites is expected to enter a plea when the matter returns to court on May 15.
