Bangladesh Eye Series Victory After Historic Darwin Test Win - Darwin, NT
Smart summary
Bangladesh are looking to build on their nine-wicket victory over Australia in Darwin as they prepare for the second Test.
Bangladesh are targeting a series victory after producing a historic nine-wicket win over Australia in the first Test at Darwin. The result gave Bangladesh a major boost in their two-Test series and followed a dominant performance against the Australian side at Marrara Oval.
Bangladesh completed the successful chase after Australia set a target of 57 runs in the fourth innings. The visitors reached the required total with nine wickets in hand, securing a memorable victory in Darwin. The result was particularly significant because it represented Bangladesh's first Test win over Australia.
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz said the team was now looking towards the second Test and expected an even greater challenge. His comments came after Bangladesh's strong performance with both bat and ball during the Darwin match.
The first Test was played at Marrara Oval, where the surface and playing conditions became an important part of the match. Australia struggled to maintain control as Bangladesh's bowlers created consistent pressure and their batters completed the final chase without major difficulty.
The result has also raised questions about Australia's preparation and performance. ABC analysis of the match highlighted concerns surrounding Australia's performance and the conditions at the Darwin venue, including issues with the outfield that became visible during the Test.
For Bangladesh, the victory provides an opportunity to claim the series if they can produce another strong performance in the second Test. The team will enter the next match with confidence after successfully defeating Australia on home soil.
The Darwin Test also attracted significant attention because international cricket returned to the Northern Territory for the series. The match provided local spectators with the opportunity to watch a major Test fixture at Marrara Oval.
The second Test will now become the focus for both teams. Bangladesh will attempt to maintain their momentum, while Australia will look to respond after the unexpected defeat. Mehidy Hasan Miraz's comments indicate that Bangladesh are not treating the first victory as the end of the contest and are preparing for another demanding match.
The outcome in Darwin has therefore changed the momentum of the series, giving Bangladesh a historic advantage and Australia the challenge of recovering in the remaining Test.
