Victoria Police have charged a 38-year-old East Bentleigh man, described by investigators as a Hells Angels outlaw motorcycle gang prospect, following an alleged road-rage incident in Melbourne’s south-east. Detectives from Taskforce Echo executed a search warrant at a residential property in East Bentleigh on Thursday, 27 August 2026, with assistance from South Melbourne uniform police.

The charges relate to an alleged incident involving an 18-year-old woman who was driving along Dandenong Road in Murrumbeena at about 11pm on Monday, 17 August. According to police, the woman was allegedly cut off by another vehicle and forced to stop. The driver of the other vehicle then allegedly exited and approached her car.

Police allege the man verbally abused the young woman before punching the passenger-side mirror of her vehicle. The impact allegedly caused the mirror to fall from the car. The incident was captured on dashcam footage, which has become an important part of the investigation.

The woman was not physically injured during the alleged confrontation. However, police treated the incident seriously because of the alleged aggressive behaviour and the circumstances in which the driver was reportedly forced to stop on a public road.

Taskforce Echo detectives are investigating the incident as part of their broader work targeting outlaw motorcycle gang activity in Victoria. The taskforce focuses on organised criminal networks and activities associated with outlaw motorcycle gangs.

During the East Bentleigh search, police allegedly seized a Hells Angels prospect vest and a Hells Angels hooded jumper. Police say the clothing was relevant to their investigation because the man was allegedly wearing similar Hells Angels-related clothing during the road-rage incident.

The 38-year-old man has now been charged with criminal damage and publicly displaying prohibited insignia. He was arrested at the East Bentleigh property following the execution of the search warrant.

Following his arrest and charging, the man was released on bail. He is scheduled to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 8 February 2027.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged road-rage incident and are also encouraging members of the public to provide information about suspected outlaw motorcycle gang activity.

The case demonstrates how dashcam footage can assist police investigations into road incidents. Video evidence can potentially help investigators establish what happened, identify people involved and provide a clearer timeline of events.
