A man in his 20s is recovering in hospital after being attacked by a large crocodile while sleeping on a beach near Hidden Creek, about 50 kilometres north of Broome in Western Australia’s Kimberley region. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at a remote but well-known camping area adjacent to Coulomb Point Nature Reserve. The victim, identified as Jimmy, sustained serious bite injuries and was initially treated at Broome Hospital in stable condition. He was later transported by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Jandakot and transferred by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Hospital officials reported that he remained in a stable condition. The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions said the incident was the second crocodile attack recorded in the Kimberley this year, prompting renewed warnings for campers and visitors to exercise caution near waterways and coastal areas known to be inhabited by saltwater crocodiles. Authorities are continuing to monitor the area and are reminding travellers that crocodiles can inhabit beaches, creeks and tidal zones throughout northern Western Australia.
