A 30-year-old man has been charged following a police investigation into alleged arson attacks in Taren Point, in Sydney's south, with the latest arrest announced by NSW Police on Monday, 28 September 2026.

Police said the investigation began after emergency services were called to a property on Holt Road, near Old Taren Point Road, at about 4:30am on 12 April 2026. Officers from the Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended the property after reports that a vehicle was on fire. When police arrived, two cars parked in the driveway were alight. Fire and Rescue NSW crews attended and extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported.

Following the incident, police established a crime scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire. The investigation was conducted under Strikeforce Bellquin, which was established to examine the alleged arson activity.

Police subsequently arrested and charged another man, aged 37, on 25 August 2026 as part of the investigation. That matter remains before the courts.

Investigators continued their inquiries into the alleged attacks over the following months. On Saturday night, 26 September, officers arrested a 30-year-old man in Buchanan Street at Kandos, in the state's Central Tablelands region. He was taken to Mudgee Police Station and charged with an offence relating to allegedly destroying property by fire while acting in company.

The accused appeared before Bail Division Court 4 on Sunday, 27 September. He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday, 6 October 2026.

The latest charge represents another development in the ongoing investigation into the alleged arson incidents. Police have not suggested that the accused has been found guilty, and the allegations will be tested through the court process.

The original fire caused damage to vehicles parked at the Taren Point property, but authorities said nobody was injured during the incident. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze after attending the property in the early hours of the morning.

Investigations into suspected arson can involve examining the scene, gathering CCTV footage, speaking with witnesses and tracing movements of people or vehicles connected to an incident. Strikeforce Bellquin officers have continued those inquiries since the April fire.

The case is now before the courts, with the next scheduled appearance set for October. Further details may emerge as the legal proceedings continue.
