A man accused in connection with an alleged violent affray that preceded the death of Ramone Gordon in northern New South Wales is facing a new series of criminal charges after appearing before the courts this week. Raymond Terrence Welsh, 23, has had his bail revoked following allegations involving weapons, drugs and intimidation.

Welsh is one of several people charged after police launched an investigation into a large alleged affray at Clifford Park in Goonellabah during the early hours of November 7, 2025. Investigators allege the violent incident occurred shortly before 25-year-old Ramone Gordon was found dead on a nearby walking track. Another man also suffered serious head injuries during the incident.

Police allege Welsh was later arrested and charged with offences including affray, reckless wounding in company, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and possessing an unauthorised firearm. He was granted strict conditional bail in March 2026 while awaiting further court proceedings.

However, prosecutors told the court that Welsh has now been charged with additional offences, including armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, possessing prohibited drugs and intimidation. Police also allege he was found carrying a knife along with small quantities of methylamphetamine and cannabis, breaching the conditions of his existing bail.

During the bail hearing, Welsh's lawyer argued that the new allegations should be considered within the broader context of the original affray investigation, describing the case as legally complex and involving numerous accused persons. The defence also told the court that Welsh had allegedly been assaulted several times while in custody and feared for his safety if returned to prison.

Despite those submissions, the court determined that the alleged breaches of bail conditions were significant enough to justify revoking bail. Welsh was remanded in custody and is expected to appear before Lismore Local Court on 15 July 2026.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the November 2025 affray and the death of Ramone Gordon. Several individuals remain before the courts as legal proceedings continue, with investigators alleging the violent confrontation and Gordon's death are connected.

As the matter is still before the courts, the allegations against Welsh and the other accused have not been proven. The case is expected to return to court as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
