NSW Police are investigating a fatal shooting following a reported home invasion at Glen Alpine, in Sydney’s south-west. Emergency services were called at about 3:40am on Tuesday after several people allegedly forced their way into a family home. A man in his early 20s was found with a gunshot wound and died at the scene.

Police believe the incident may have been a targeted attack, although investigators are also examining whether mistaken identity could have played a role. The victim reportedly lived at the property with family members, who were present when the alleged attack occurred.

The offenders fled before police arrived. Detectives from the NSW Crime Command's Homicide Squad are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the identity and movements of the people involved. Forensic officers are examining the crime scene and police are appealing for information from members of the public.

Police have indicated that the victim had only a minor previous police history involving a traffic offence and was not known to have criminal ties, adding to questions about why the home may have been targeted. Investigators are examining possible connections to recent gangland-related violence in Sydney, but police have not confirmed a link between this shooting and another recent fatal home invasion in Guildford.

The incident has renewed concerns about violent home invasions in Sydney's south-west. Police are continuing to establish exactly what happened inside the property before and during the shooting.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Glen Alpine area around 3:40am, or anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam or other information, to contact police.

The investigation remains active. At this stage, no offenders have been publicly identified or charged in connection with the fatal shooting.

Important: Police investigations are ongoing, and claims about motive or mistaken identity remain lines of inquiry rather than established facts. The victim's family has also been affected by the incident, and police have not released unnecessary personal details.
