Police are seeking information from the community after a series of serious property offences involving the alleged theft of registered firearms in Cooranbong, Lake Macquarie.
Investigators from Lake Macquarie Detectives are continuing inquiries after unknown offenders allegedly entered a home on Barbers Road, Cooranbong, between approximately 10pm on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, and 2.30am on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. During the alleged break-in, several items were stolen, including five registered firearms, power tools and an orange Holden Colorado vehicle.
Police later attended another incident on the same road after emergency services were called about a vehicle fire at around 4am on 24 June. Officers established that two people allegedly approached a parked SUV before the vehicle caught fire and was destroyed. Separate crime scenes were established as detectives began investigating links between the incidents.
As part of their investigation, police have reviewed CCTV footage from the area. Investigators identified images showing a small white sedan, a white Ford Ranger, and several people in the vicinity of the properties around the time of the alleged offences. Police are asking residents and motorists who may have captured relevant footage to come forward.
Authorities are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who travelled along Barbers Road during the relevant time period, including people with dashcam footage that may assist detectives with identifying vehicles or movements connected to the investigation.
Police have reminded the community that information from residents can play an important role in solving serious offences, particularly when stolen firearms are involved. Investigators continue working to locate the stolen firearms and identify those responsible.
Firearm theft investigations are treated as a priority because stolen weapons can pose a significant risk if they enter illegal markets or are used in further criminal activity. Police encourage firearm owners to ensure weapons are stored securely and comply with all legal storage requirements.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not suggested that people captured on CCTV are necessarily involved in the alleged offences. Detectives are seeking information only to assist with establishing the circumstances surrounding the theft and vehicle fire.
Members of the public who have information that may assist Lake Macquarie Detectives are encouraged to contact police. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
The incident has raised community concerns about firearm security and public safety, with police continuing efforts to recover the stolen firearms and prevent them from being used in future crimes.
