A homicide investigation is underway after a 22-year-old man died following a stabbing in the heart of Gosford on the New South Wales Central Coast. Emergency services were called to Mann Street at about 7:30pm on Tuesday, 28 July, following reports that a man had been seriously injured during an altercation.

Police from the Brisbane Water Police District arrived at the scene and located the 22-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. NSW Ambulance paramedics immediately provided emergency medical treatment before the victim was transported to Gosford Hospital in a critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the man later died from his injuries.

A crime scene was established on Mann Street as specialist forensic officers and detectives began examining the area. Investigators spent several hours collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby businesses. Police are also seeking dashcam recordings from motorists who travelled through the area around the time of the incident.

Strike Force Volaru has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Detectives have appealed for a 15-year-old boy to come forward, saying they believe he may be able to assist with their inquiries. Police said the teenager and the victim were known to each other and had travelled on the same bus before the incident. At this stage, investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive.

Superintendent Darryl Jobson urged the teenager to contact police and encouraged members of the public not to approach him if seen. Instead, anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact police immediately. Authorities stressed that the investigation is ongoing and all available evidence is being carefully assessed.

The fatal incident has shocked the Gosford community, with floral tributes being placed near the scene on Wednesday morning. Local residents described the event as deeply distressing and expressed condolences to the victim's family and friends. Police have increased their presence in the area while investigations continue.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Brisbane Water Police District or Crime Stoppers. Even small pieces of information could help investigators establish the sequence of events that led to the fatal stabbing.
