New South Wales Police have launched an investigation after a residential property in Abbotsford, in Sydney's Inner West, was targeted in an alleged malicious damage incident during the early hours of Saturday, 31 October 2026.
Police were called to a home on Weddle Avenue shortly before 3:30 am after receiving reports of suspicious activity at the property.
Officers from Burwood Police Area Command attended the address and discovered that the driveway had been spray-painted and covered with petrol. Police also located several items at the scene that are now part of the investigation.
According to the initial police report, two people were seen leaving the area in a four-wheel-drive vehicle shortly before officers arrived. The vehicle has not yet been fully identified, and police have not released the identities or descriptions of the two individuals.
Following the discovery, officers established a crime scene and began examining the property. Specialist forensic officers are expected to inspect the affected areas and collect evidence that could help determine how the incident occurred.
Detectives are also investigating whether the latest incident is connected to an earlier fire reported on the same street.
The possible connection has become an important part of the investigation. Police are examining whether the two incidents share any similarities or whether they may have involved the same individuals.
Authorities have not confirmed the motive behind the alleged attack. Investigators are working to establish why the property was targeted and whether the petrol and graffiti were intended to cause further damage.
The incident has raised concerns among local residents about residential security and suspicious activity in the neighbourhood.
Abbotsford is a residential suburb located approximately 10 kilometres west of central Sydney. Weddle Avenue and the surrounding streets form part of an established residential community.
