Two people have died after a devastating head-on crash near the small Victorian township of Weering, prompting a major police investigation and renewed calls for motorists to take extra care on regional roads.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Princes Highway near Weering on Wednesday, 1 July, after reports of a serious collision involving two vehicles. Despite the efforts of paramedics, both drivers suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
