Senior Indigenous Elders from the Riverland region met with SA Liberal Legislative Council leader Nicola Centofanti at the Berri riverfront to discuss ongoing concerns around Aboriginal affairs governance. During the discussion, Elders highlighted frustration over limited accountability and said their voices are often ignored in decision-making processes. They stressed the need for practical solutions, stronger local leadership, and meaningful engagement instead of additional bureaucratic systems. Community representative Tyson Lindsay said Elders across the Murray Mallee region are becoming united on shared concerns, adding that local autonomy and cultural integrity should remain central to future governance decisions.
