A Sunshine Coast man has been fined $5,000 after admitting he created fictitious medical reports that allowed a paramedic to work at Queensland coal mines without completing required health assessments. Ian Leslie Rizzoli, 65, pleaded guilty in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court to two charges of providing false or misleading statements. While working as general manager of Risk 2 Solutions in 2023, Rizzoli altered one doctor's report and fabricated another so a paramedic could be cleared for mine work despite not undergoing further medical testing. The deception was uncovered almost a year later when the company doctor realised he had never written one of the reports. Magistrate Raelene Ellis described the conduct as serious because it delayed important health checks and placed the worker at potential risk. Rizzoli, a former Queensland Ambulance Service paramedic and recipient of an Ambulance Service Medal, told the court he acted while under significant stress and was too embarrassed to seek character references. No conviction was recorded.
