A 17-year-old boy has been charged with possessing an unauthorised pistol following a police investigation in Mount Druitt, in western Sydney. Officers seized a firearm, ammunition, firearm parts and a stolen trail bike during a search of a residential property, according to New South Wales Police.

The investigation is being conducted under Strike Force Kinetx, established in September 2026 to target alleged illegal moped and trail-bike riding offences in the Mount Druitt area. Police said the investigation subsequently expanded after officers obtained a Go Pro camera on 6 October.

Investigators allege the camera contained footage showing dangerous riding and criminal activities across New South Wales. Police inquiries into the material led officers to execute a search warrant at a home on Janet Street, Mount Druitt, at approximately 1 pm on Thursday, 15 October.

During the search, police seized a 9mm Glock pistol, firearm parts, ammunition, 48 grams of cannabis, a stolen trail bike and a mobile device. These items are now relevant to the ongoing investigation, although the public information released by police does not establish that every item is connected to a separate offence. A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the property and taken to Mount Druitt Police Station. He was subsequently charged with possessing an unauthorised pistol.

Police stated that the teenager was granted bail subject to strict conditions. He is due to appear before a Children's Court on Monday, 26 October 2026.

The investigation highlights the role of digital evidence in modern policing. Action-camera footage can provide investigators with material to examine alleged offences, identify individuals or vehicles and establish possible connections between incidents. However, the significance and admissibility of any evidence must be assessed through the appropriate legal process.

Illegal trail-bike and moped activity can raise community-safety concerns when vehicles are allegedly ridden dangerously or used in ways that put pedestrians and other road users at risk. Police investigations can involve examining footage, vehicle details, witness information and other evidence to determine whether offences have occurred.

The seizure of a firearm is also significant because unauthorised possession of firearms is a serious criminal matter in New South Wales. The precise circumstances surrounding the pistol, including any alleged use or connection to other incidents, have not been fully detailed in the published police statement.

Strike Force Kinetx investigations remain ongoing. Police have not publicly established that the teenager is responsible for any other alleged criminal activity shown in the footage, and the charge must be resolved through the court process. The teenager is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until the charge is proven. Further information may be released as police continue their inquiries and the case progresses through the Children's Court.
