Three people, including two teenagers, have been charged following a violent altercation in the remote Aboriginal community of Ngukurr that left a 25-year-old man with life-threatening head injuries. Northern Territory Police allege the victim was assaulted during an incident involving edged weapons, a slingshot and a blunt object. A 15-year-old is accused of throwing two edged weapons, a 20-year-old allegedly used a slingshot to fire projectiles, and a 16-year-old is accused of striking the man after he fell to the ground. The injured man was initially treated at the local clinic before being transferred to Royal Darwin Hospital when his condition deteriorated. He remains in critical condition with serious head injuries. All three accused have been charged with intention to cause harm, recklessly endanger life (aggravated), unlawfully causing serious harm and going armed in public. They remain in custody pending upcoming court appearances. Police believe the incident is linked to a long-running conflict between family groups and say they are working with traditional owners and community leaders to reduce tensions in Ngukurr.
