A woman in her 60s has been injured after a ute crashed into a home in West Tamworth late Tuesday night, prompting a police investigation and an appeal for the driver to come forward.

Emergency services were called to a property on Mac Gregor Street at about 11pm after residents heard a loud crash. Police said a vehicle had left the roadway, struck a street sign, mounted the kerb and then crashed through a brick wall of the home.

The impact occurred while the woman was sleeping in her bedroom. The force of the crash threw her across the room and caused significant damage to the property.

The woman was able to free herself from the debris following the collision. She suffered deep cuts to her head and spinal injuries and was taken to Tamworth Hospital for treatment, where she remained following the incident.

Another man was inside the home when the crash occurred but was not injured.

Police have released details of the incident as they continue efforts to identify the driver. Investigators are examining the circumstances leading up to the crash, including the speed and manner in which the vehicle was allegedly being driven.

According to police, reports had been received about a white Holden Colorado ute being driven erratically in the area at around 10.30pm, shortly before the crash.

CCTV footage obtained by investigators reportedly shows the vehicle hitting a street sign before travelling onto the kerb and crashing into the property. Footage also shows a man leaving the scene shortly after the collision.

Police are appealing to the driver to contact investigators and provide information about what happened. Detectives have also asked members of the public who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.

The incident has left the affected home with substantial structural damage, including a large opening in the wall where the vehicle entered. Neighbours and family members have since rallied around the occupants, while work has begun to secure the damaged section of the property.

Police said the investigation remains focused on establishing exactly what happened before, during and after the crash. The circumstances surrounding the driver's departure from the scene are also being investigated.
