A young boy was hit by a car outside St Peter’s Primary School in Inglewood, Perth, on Tuesday morning, with the incident reported on 8 September 2026. Emergency services attended the scene after the child was struck near the school during the morning period.

The incident occurred at about 8:40am near the intersection of Wood Street and Buller Street. The boy was struck by a grey Volkswagen Tiguan station wagon. The vehicle’s driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with police as authorities investigated the circumstances of the collision.

St John WA paramedics assessed the child at the scene before he was transported to Perth Children’s Hospital for further medical assessment. Reports indicate that his injuries were minor and that he was not considered to be in a serious or critical condition.

The incident prompted a response from the school, with principal Daine Burnett informing parents about what had happened. The school also highlighted the importance of extra care around the school during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up periods, when children and vehicles are often moving through the same areas.

School zones can become particularly busy during these periods, with children crossing roads, parents stopping or parking nearby and vehicles moving through residential streets. Even collisions at relatively low speeds can result in injuries, making driver attention and reduced speeds particularly important around schools.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash. The fact that the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators will form part of the ongoing assessment of what occurred.

For the school community, the incident has reinforced concerns about road safety around school entrances and surrounding streets. Parents were reassured that emergency procedures were followed after the collision and that the injured student was receiving medical care.

The incident is one of Perth’s fresh local road-safety stories published today, and unlike several older Perth cases, it concerns an event that occurred this morning.
