A Corio carpenter says he is considering leaving his home after becoming the victim of an alleged drive-by shooting in Geelong's northern suburbs.
Ayden Isaacs, 29, told local media he was awake at his Wyoming Avenue residence shortly before 3:30am on Saturday when he heard the sound of a vehicle outside, followed by yelling and what he believed was a gunshot. Moments later, his dog began barking as the vehicle sped away.
After checking footage captured by his home's security cameras, Mr Isaacs said he noticed what appeared to be a flash coming from a dark-coloured SUV travelling past the property.
Believing someone had fired towards his home, he immediately contacted Victoria Police. Fortunately, no one inside the residence was physically injured during the incident.
Mr Isaacs believes the shooting may have been connected to an incident that occurred approximately two months earlier, when he claims he stepped in to help a friend of a friend who was experiencing domestic violence.
According to his account, the alleged offender involved in that situation had previously threatened to set his house on fire. Mr Isaacs said he had only met the individual once but had become increasingly concerned about his family's safety following the alleged threats.
"I thought something like this might happen," he reportedly told the Geelong Advertiser, adding that he now plans to temporarily stay elsewhere or relocate while police continue their investigation.
In a statement, Victoria Police confirmed they were investigating reports that a shot had been fired from a dark-coloured SUV outside a property on Wyoming Avenue.
Police said a male occupant was inside the house at the time and was not injured.
Authorities also noted that the individuals involved were believed to be known to each other, although investigators had not identified a motive publicly nor announced any arrests at the time of reporting. Officers further stated that no damage to the property from the alleged bullet had been located during initial examinations.
The incident has unsettled residents in Corio, a suburb within Greater Geelong that has faced concerns around crime and community safety in recent years.
Victoria Police are continuing to examine CCTV footage and gather evidence to determine exactly what occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or who may have dashcam footage from Wyoming Avenue and surrounding streets, to come forward.
Anyone with information that may assist police is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers Victoria on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
As the investigation continues, authorities have reminded the public that all allegations remain subject to ongoing inquiries.
For Mr Isaacs, the incident has transformed an ordinary suburban home into a place of uncertainty, as he weighs difficult decisions about his future while awaiting answers from investigators.
