The Royal Queensland Show, widely known as the Ekka, is celebrating its 150th anniversary in Brisbane this year, with the annual event continuing at the Brisbane Showgrounds from 8 to 16 August 2026.

Friday, 14 August is one of the major days of the nine-day event, with the showgrounds open to visitors from 9am to 9pm. The 2026 Ekka is being staged at its original Brisbane location and is bringing together Queensland's agricultural communities, families, businesses and visitors.

The anniversary is a major milestone for the event, which has been connecting Queensland's city and country communities since 1876. Organisers say this year's show features a broad range of agricultural competitions, animals, entertainment, food, carnival rides, showbags and educational activities.

The event includes more than 21,000 competition entries and approximately 10,000 animals, covering everything from livestock and pets to agricultural displays and produce. Visitors can also experience live entertainment, carnival attractions and the food and traditions that have become closely associated with the Ekka.

The 150th anniversary provides an opportunity for Brisbane residents and visitors to experience both the modern Ekka and traditions that have been maintained across generations. The event continues to play a role in highlighting Queensland agriculture while providing entertainment and activities for people across the metropolitan area.

The Brisbane Showgrounds in Bowen Hills remain the centre of the celebrations. The official event information lists the venue at 600 Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills, close to Brisbane's inner-city area.
