Four people have been arrested following an alleged aggravated burglary at a residential property in Alice Springs, Northern Territory, on Thursday morning, 1 October 2026.

According to Northern Territory Police, emergency services received reports at approximately 6:20am that several people were allegedly breaking into a residence on McMinn Street in the East Side area of Alice Springs.

Police allege that an 18-year-old woman who was inside the property encountered an unknown person in her kitchen. She reportedly locked herself inside a bedroom and contacted police for assistance.

Officers from Strike Force Viper and general duties police attended the scene after receiving the report. On arrival, they allegedly found that the front door of the property had been forced open. Alcohol was also reported to have been stolen from inside the residence.

Police established cordons in the surrounding area and reviewed CCTV footage as part of their investigation. Following inquiries, officers located four people nearby who were allegedly in possession of the stolen alcohol.

The four arrested individuals were identified as three males, aged 16, 21 and 22, and a 25-year-old woman. Police confirmed that they remained in custody following their arrests, while investigations into the alleged incident continued.

Strike Force Viper is leading the investigation. Police are examining the circumstances of the alleged break-in, including the events at the property and the suspected theft. The allegations have not yet been tested in court, and the arrested individuals are entitled to the presumption of innocence.

The incident has drawn attention to residential security and police responses to reported break-ins in Alice Springs. Police encourage residents to report suspicious activity and contact emergency services when there is an immediate threat to safety.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around McMinn Street in East Side during the early hours of Thursday morning, or who may have CCTV or other relevant information, to come forward.
