The Inklings early intervention program is being introduced to Whyalla and Port Pirie to provide free support for families with young children showing early developmental differences. The pilot program is designed to assist children in their formative years by helping parents and caregivers access practical strategies and professional guidance as soon as developmental concerns emerge. Early intervention programs like Inklings aim to improve communication, learning and social outcomes while reducing barriers to support in regional communities. The initiative will run through to June 2027 and is intended to make specialised assistance more accessible to families living outside metropolitan areas. Local communities in Whyalla and Port Pirie were selected as pilot locations to ensure regional families can access the same quality of early childhood support services available in larger centres.
