The BAAKA Cultural & Arts Centre has announced the appointment of experienced Indigenous arts leader Liane Wendt as its new Executive Director, bringing more than a decade of experience in regional and remote cultural organisations. The BAAKA Cultural & Arts Centre has announced the appointment of Liane Wendt as its new Executive Director. Ms Wendt joins the organisation from Derby in Western Australia, where she previously led the Mowanjum Arts and Cultural Centre. The BAAKA Board said her extensive experience working with remote and regional Indigenous arts and cultural organisations across Australia made her well suited to guide the next stage of the centre’s development. In the coming months, Ms Wendt is expected to begin recruiting local staff to help operate the centre and ensure it reflects the culture, creativity and community spirit of Wilcannia. She will also work closely with local artists and community members to help shape programs and opportunities that celebrate culture, storytelling and regional creativity. Board members welcomed Ms Wendt to the region and said they looked forward to the positive impact her leadership would bring to the growing cultural centre and the wider Wilcannia community.
