A 60-year-old Queensland man was assaulted early Friday morning after interrupting an alleged attempt to steal his electric bicycle at a caravan park in Hackney, an inner suburb of Adelaide, South Australia.

According to South Australia Police, officers and paramedics were called to the caravan park on Richmond Street at approximately 4:45 am on 9 October 2026 following reports of an assault. Police said the man was woken by noises outside his vehicle. When he went outside to investigate, he discovered an unknown person allegedly trying to remove his electric bicycle, which had been secured to the motorhome.

The situation reportedly escalated when the victim confronted the suspected thief. Police allege the offender struck the man on the head with an angle grinder before fleeing the scene.

The victim suffered a laceration to his head. Paramedics attended and treated him at the location. Police have not reported any further injuries in their initial statement.
