A man accused of murdering 30-year-old Toowoomba mother Jana Armstrong has appeared before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court after police discovered her body in bushland following a multi-day search. The case has deeply affected the Queensland community and renewed concerns about domestic violence.

Jana Armstrong was reported missing after she was last seen at her Toowoomba home on 7 July 2026. Police launched a major search operation after her white Hyundai vehicle was later found abandoned, prompting fears for her safety. Investigators appealed to the public for information and reviewed CCTV and dashcam footage from areas between Toowoomba and Esk.

Human remains believed to be those of Ms Armstrong were discovered in bushland near Redbank Creek by members of the public. Police allege the location had not previously been searched because of its difficult terrain. Formal identification and post-mortem examinations are being conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.

The accused, 48-year-old Dharminder Singh, has been charged with murder, as well as additional offences including arson and an alleged breach of bail conditions. During his first court appearance, his lawyer told the court that Singh maintains his innocence and intends to defend the charges. The matter has been adjourned while investigators prepare a full brief of evidence.

Police allege the case is a domestic violence-related homicide. Detectives continue to examine evidence and have appealed for anyone with relevant information or vehicle footage from the surrounding area to contact authorities. Investigators believe public assistance may help establish the movements of those involved before and after Ms Armstrong's disappearance.

Family members have described Ms Armstrong as a caring mother devoted to her four-month-old son. Following her death, relatives have taken responsibility for caring for the infant while also calling for greater awareness of domestic violence and stronger protections for vulnerable families. Community members have rallied around the family, offering emotional and financial support during the difficult time.

Queensland Police said the investigation remains active and further court proceedings are expected in the coming months. Authorities continue to encourage witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
