The United States government has released more than 160 declassified files documenting alleged sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and other unexplained aerial phenomena dating back to the 1940s. The release was ordered by Donald Trump, who said the move was intended to provide "maximum transparency" and allow the public to decide for themselves "what the hell is going on." The newly available documents come from agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, NASA, the United States Department of State and the United States Department of Defense. Among the reports are descriptions of flying saucers, disc-shaped objects, a "super-hot" hovering orb and a glowing orange phenomenon compared to the "Eye of Sauron" from The Lord of the Rings. One military report also detailed a football-shaped object observed near Japan. Officials noted that the incidents remain unexplained for a variety of reasons, though the documents do not provide evidence confirming extraterrestrial life. Instead, they offer a historical record of investigations into unusual sightings that could not be conclusively identified.
