Sydney has secured the hosting rights for the 2027 Super Netball Grand Final, marking the first time the city will stage the competition's championship match since the league began. The announcement was made by Netball Australia and the New South Wales Government, adding another major sporting event to Sydney's growing calendar for 2027.

The Grand Final is the season's decisive match, bringing together the two teams that progress through the finals series. It is one of the biggest events in Australian domestic netball and attracts supporters from across the country. The decision to bring the match to Sydney is expected to increase the city's visibility as a destination for major women's sporting events.

The match is proposed to take place on Saturday, 31 July 2027, at Afterpay Arena in Sydney Olympic Park. The final venue and event arrangements will be subject to confirmation by the organisers.

The New South Wales Government estimates that the event could attract more than 8,000 visitors and generate over $4 million for the state's visitor economy. Spending by travelling supporters is expected to benefit accommodation providers, restaurants, pubs, retailers and other businesses that serve visitors attending sporting events.

The announcement comes ahead of the 2027 Netball World Cup, which will also be hosted exclusively in Sydney from 25 August to 5 September. The international tournament is expected to feature 16 national teams competing across 64 matches, bringing elite players and supporters to the city.

Organisers are targeting more than 200,000 attendees for the World Cup. The tournament will provide an international platform for Australian netball and give fans an opportunity to watch leading teams compete. The Australian Diamonds will aim to defend the title they won in 2023.

Netball Australia chief executive Mark Falvo welcomed the decision to bring the Grand Final to Sydney, describing 2027 as an important year for the sport. The organisation has highlighted the popularity of Super Netball, which has recorded strong attendance and sold out its Grand Final in each of the previous five years.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns said securing the event would give supporters another opportunity to watch the country's leading players compete in Sydney. The state government has also highlighted its broader investment in major events and sporting participation.

The planned Grand Final adds to an already busy sporting calendar for New South Wales in 2027. Other events expected during the year include the Netball World Cup, the Men's Rugby World Cup, the Bathurst 1000 and the TCS Sydney Marathon. Major events can encourage visitors to extend their stays and explore attractions beyond the sporting venues.

The state government is also investing $1.5 million through the Netball World Cup Legacy Program. The initiative is intended to help players, coaches and officials across New South Wales benefit from the tournament and encourage participation at community level. Support for local clubs and facilities is important to ensuring that major events leave a lasting impact beyond the competition itself.

The 2027 Super Netball season is scheduled to begin on 10 April under a new broadcast agreement with Nine Entertainment. Under the announced arrangements, a minimum of two matches each week will be available on free-to-air television, while all matches are expected to be available through Stan Sport and free streaming on 9Now.

For Sydney, hosting the Grand Final represents an opportunity to welcome netball supporters from across Australia and New Zealand while strengthening the city's reputation as a destination for elite sport. For the sport itself, the event offers a national showcase before the international spotlight turns to the Netball World Cup later in the year.

The final is expected to be a major highlight of the 2027 sporting calendar, combining high-level competition with tourism and community participation opportunities.
