Three men from Sydney are due to be extradited to Queensland to face charges relating to an alleged extortion investigation involving former business associates on the Gold Coast.

Queensland police said the men, aged 35, 38 and 45, were taken into custody in New South Wales following an investigation by Gold Coast detectives. Police secured their extradition on Wednesday, 21 October, and they are expected to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on Friday, 23 October 2026. Each faces multiple charges of extortion with intent to gain a benefit by threatening detriment.

Investigators allege the incidents occurred in July and involved demands for significant amounts of money. In one alleged incident, at about 10:50am on 18 July, a 28-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were at their home in Mermaid Waters when two men arrived and identified themselves as debt collectors.

The pair were allegedly taken to a nearby café, where they met a 39-year-old man with whom they had previously been involved in a business venture in Broadbeach in 2025. Police allege further threats were made during the meeting. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

A second alleged incident occurred on 26 July at Currumbin Waters. Police allege two men visited the home of a 47-year-old man, demanded a substantial amount of money and made threats. The man had reportedly been involved in a restaurant business venture with the same 39-year-old man between 2016 and 2021. No one was injured in that incident either.

The investigation previously led to the arrest of the 39-year-old Miami man on 28 July, after police executed a search warrant at a property on Marine Parade. Officers allegedly located drugs and the man was charged with three counts each of extortion and unlawful stalking, as well as offences relating to possessing dangerous drugs and prescription medication.

He is scheduled to return to Southport Magistrates Court on 3 December 2026. The charges against him are separate from the additional charges the three Sydney men are expected to face.

Police have not announced that the investigation is complete. Detectives continue to investigate the alleged incidents and the circumstances surrounding the demands for money.

The case highlights the serious criminal consequences associated with allegedly using threats or intimidation to obtain money or another benefit. Extortion charges can carry substantial penalties, depending on the circumstances and applicable law.

All allegations remain before the legal process. The accused men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
