A major emergency response was launched on Tuesday morning after a serious truck crash at Billywillinga, near Orange in central western New South Wales, left a woman trapped inside the vehicle and a teenager injured.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:00am on 30 June 2026, prompting a large response from emergency services, including NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Police, the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) and a rescue helicopter. Emergency crews arrived to find the truck heavily damaged, with the female driver trapped in the wreckage.
Specialist rescue teams worked carefully to free the woman using hydraulic rescue equipment. The complex operation required firefighters to stabilise the vehicle before cutting through sections of the cabin to safely extricate her. The rescue took some time due to the severity of the damage and the need to minimise further injuries during the extraction.
A teenage passenger was also injured in the crash and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics. Initial assessments indicated the teenager may have suffered spinal injuries, prompting paramedics to immobilise the patient before transport. A Toll Rescue Helicopter landed nearby to assist with the emergency response and patient transport if required.
Once freed from the vehicle, the woman received immediate medical treatment before being transported to hospital for further assessment. The teenager was also taken to hospital for specialist care. Authorities had not released details regarding the full extent of either patient's injuries at the time of publication.
Police established a safety perimeter around the crash site while emergency crews carried out rescue operations and investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the collision. Traffic in the area was affected as motorists were diverted around the incident, with drivers advised to avoid the area until emergency services completed their work.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officers will examine the vehicle, road conditions and any available witness statements to determine what led to the incident. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage has been encouraged to provide information to investigators.
Serious crashes involving heavy vehicles often require coordinated responses from multiple emergency agencies due to the complexity of rescue operations. Firefighters, paramedics and police worked together to ensure both patients received urgent medical care while maintaining safety at the scene.
Authorities have reminded motorists to exercise caution when travelling on regional roads, particularly where heavy vehicles operate, and to follow directions from emergency personnel during rescue operations. Further information is expected once police complete their preliminary investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
