Police in New South Wales have launched an investigation after two unknown offenders allegedly stole an automated teller machine (ATM) during a ram raid at a service station in New Berrima in the early hours of Saturday, 31 October 2026.
According to information released by police, the incident happened shortly before 4:00 am at a service station on Taylor Avenue in New Berrima, located in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales.
Investigators were notified of a break-in at the business and immediately began responding to the incident.
Initial investigations indicate that a utility vehicle arrived at the service station shortly before the theft. CCTV footage reportedly captured two people using the vehicle to forcibly remove the ATM from the premises.
The offenders allegedly attached or positioned the vehicle against the ATM and used it to pull the machine away from its installation point. They then left the location with the ATM and an unknown quantity of cash.
Police said the vehicle involved was described as an AU-model Ford Falcon tray-back utility.
Officers from the Hume Police District attended the location and established a crime scene. Specialist forensic officers were also called to examine the property and collect evidence that could assist investigators in identifying those responsible.
The investigation is focusing on CCTV footage, the vehicle used in the incident and other available evidence. Police are working to establish the movements of the offenders before and after the alleged robbery.
At this stage, authorities have not confirmed the exact amount of money taken from the ATM. They have also not announced any arrests or identified the suspects publicly.
Ram raids involve offenders using vehicles to force entry into businesses or remove heavy equipment such as ATMs. These incidents can cause substantial property damage and financial losses for businesses.
The latest incident has raised concerns about security at regional commercial properties, particularly businesses that operate overnight and may have limited staff on site.
Police are continuing their inquiries and are appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity around Taylor Avenue during the early hours of Saturday.
Investigators are particularly interested in dashcam footage, CCTV recordings and information about an AU-model Ford Falcon utility travelling through New Berrima or nearby areas around the time of the incident.
Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact NSW Police or Crime Stoppers.
