Queensland Police are investigating the death of a 48-year-old man whose body was discovered in bushland in Chermside, in Brisbane’s northern suburbs. The discovery was made on Sunday morning, October 18, after emergency services had responded to a separate serious dog attack in the same area on Friday night. Police published further information about the investigation on October 19, 2026.

Officers located the man’s body in bushland off Kittyhawk Drive shortly before midday. Detectives are working to establish the circumstances surrounding his death, including whether two dogs involved in the earlier attack may also have been involved.

The first incident occurred shortly after 6pm on Friday, October 16, when emergency services were called to reports that a 37-year-old man had been attacked by two dogs. The victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital, where he remained in a stable condition according to the police update.

During the response to that attack, police officers shot both dogs after the incident. The animals initially ran away. One was located later that night, while the second was captured on Saturday morning. Both dogs survived and were placed in the custody of Brisbane City Council.

The discovery of the 48-year-old man’s body prompted investigators to examine whether the two incidents were connected. Queensland regional crime coordinator Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said the condition of the body meant police could not immediately rule out the possibility that the dogs had been involved.

Police said a post-mortem examination indicated the man had died sometime on Friday. However, investigators cautioned that the exact circumstances and any possible connection to the dog attack remained unresolved. They were also considering whether the dogs could have had some involvement after the man’s death, rather than having caused it.

Detectives are continuing forensic sampling and analysis to establish what happened. The investigation is still at an early stage, and police have not announced a final conclusion about the cause of death or the animals’ involvement.

Authorities are asking anyone who was in the area on Friday afternoon to contact police if they witnessed anything unusual. Investigators are particularly interested in information from people who may have heard something in or around the park between 4pm and 6pm.

The case has raised concerns about safety in public parks and bushland areas, particularly after a serious dog attack and a separate death occurred close together. However, police have not confirmed that the incidents were directly connected, and it would be premature to draw conclusions before the forensic findings are complete.

The investigation will need to establish the timeline of events, the cause of the man’s death and whether any further action is required in relation to the dogs or their circumstances.

Police have urged members of the public not to speculate about the case and to provide investigators with relevant information or footage that could help clarify what occurred. Further updates are expected as the forensic examination and police inquiries progress.
