A woman is in critical condition following a serious single-vehicle crash on the Sunshine Coast, prompting an investigation by Queensland Police's Forensic Crash Unit.
Emergency services were called to Woombye–Palmwoods Road shortly before 10:00am on Wednesday, 23 July 2026, after reports that a vehicle had left the road and collided with a tree.
According to initial information released by authorities, the vehicle involved was a grey Suzuki Ignis being driven by a 62-year-old woman from Palmwoods. Police said the woman was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Paramedics arrived quickly and provided emergency treatment at the scene before transporting the woman to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition receiving specialist medical care.
The crash resulted in the temporary closure of Woombye–Palmwoods Road while emergency crews worked to assist the injured driver, clear the scene and allow investigators to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. The road remained closed for approximately one hour before reopening to traffic.
Police have confirmed that the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident. At this stage, authorities have not released details about what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, and inquiries remain ongoing.
