Lottery players across Australia have been given a glimpse into the country’s luckiest postcodes, with new data revealing the areas that produced the highest number of major lottery winners during the 2025–26 financial year.
According to figures from The Lott, hundreds of Australians became millionaires after Division One lottery prizes were won across metropolitan and regional communities. The data showed that lottery success was spread across the country, with both major cities and smaller regional towns recording significant wins.
Victoria was named Australia’s leading state for the number of Division One lottery wins, recording 138 major wins during the financial year. However, New South Wales claimed the highest total prize money, with winners collecting around $452.8 million in Division One winnings.
Among the standout locations was Melbourne’s CBD postcode 3000, which recorded four Division One winning entries. The inner-city postcode was one of the strongest-performing areas nationally, showing that major lottery wins can occur in busy metropolitan areas as well as regional communities.
Another highly successful postcode was Cairns/Earlville in Queensland (4870), which also recorded four Division One wins during the year. The result made Cairns one of the country’s most notable lottery hotspots, with Queensland communities celebrating several major wins.
The figures also highlighted the success of regional Australia. Smaller communities recorded multiple winning tickets, proving that lottery luck was not limited to capital cities. NSW regional locations including Denman were among the areas recognised for multiple Division One wins during the year.
The biggest individual jackpot recorded during the period was an $80 million win claimed by a retired man from Altona, Victoria. The win was among the largest lottery prizes awarded in Australia during the financial year.
New South Wales also produced the highest number of new millionaires, with 91 winners, followed by Victoria with 82, Queensland with 66, and Western Australia with 65.
Lottery officials stressed that the results do not mean certain suburbs have a higher mathematical chance of winning. Lottery draws remain random, and every valid ticket has the same chance of being selected. The postcode data simply reflects where winning tickets happened to be purchased during the year.
The release of the data has created renewed excitement among lottery players, especially ahead of major jackpot draws. Successful suburbs often attract attention from hopeful players who believe previous winning locations may bring good fortune, although officials continue to remind people that past wins do not influence future results.
The popularity of lottery games in Australia remains strong, with millions of entries purchased each year. For winners, a Division One prize can transform lives by helping people buy homes, support families, reduce debt or retire earlier.
