New Maudsland acquisition strengthens wildlife corridors and supports the City’s target of increasing native vegetation coverage across the region.

The City of Gold Coast has purchased its ninth property under the Natural Areas Acquisition Program (NAAP), expanding the city’s conservation estate to more than 14,525 hectares. Mayor Tom Tate said the newly acquired site at Maudsland was chosen for its strategic environmental value and its connection to existing Council-managed conservation land. The acquisition supports the City’s long-term goal of achieving 51 per cent native vegetation cover across the Gold Coast region. Since 2021, the City has invested more than $20 million into securing environmentally significant land parcels aimed at protecting biodiversity and strengthening wildlife corridors. The announcement coincides with the International Day for Biological Diversity, highlighting global efforts to reduce biodiversity loss and preserve natural ecosystems for future generations.
