South-east Queensland is bracing for dangerous coastal conditions as wave heights of up to four metres are forecast to hit exposed beaches across the region. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a coastal hazard warning stretching from Coffs Harbour to Moreton Island, with hazardous surf conditions expected to continue through the weekend. Authorities warn the large swells could worsen beach scarping and erosion, particularly along south-facing beaches on the Gold Coast. Coastal experts say the erosion is a natural seasonal process, while the city’s long-running sand replenishment program is scheduled to resume in July to restore affected beaches.
