Three people have died following a devastating two-vehicle crash at Sans Souci in southern Sydney early on Saturday morning. Police say a white Audi sedan travelling at “considerable speed” crossed over a concrete barrier on Rocky Point Road before crashing head-on into a blue Toyota Camry near the Captain Cook Bridge. The 42-year-old Audi driver died at the scene, along with the Camry driver and a passenger believed to have been travelling in a rideshare vehicle. Authorities said police had attended a welfare check at a home in Gymea Bay shortly before the collision, but the Audi driver left before officers could speak with him. Detective Acting Superintendent Graham Hibbs described the aftermath as a “horrific scene”, with between 20 and 40 bystanders attempting to help after one of the vehicles caught fire. Specialist crash investigators are examining whether speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision. Rocky Point Road was closed for several hours while forensic officers processed the scene.
