A new report has warned Western Australia is heading towards a severe and time-critical shortage of residential aged care beds, with demand expected to outpace supply by 2030. The analysis found Perth and regional WA may require between 1,600 and 2,700 extra beds — equivalent to up to 27 new aged care facilities — to support the state’s rapidly ageing population. High construction costs, workforce shortages, and lengthy development timelines are being blamed for the looming crisis, with many existing facilities already operating near full capacity.
