Construction has resumed on the long-awaited Biloela Splash Park in central Queensland, bringing the community project closer to completion after delays caused by wet weather and unexpected ground conditions.

According to ABC Capricornia’s regional news briefing on 29 October 2026, the project is valued at $4.5 million and is now expected to open by the end of the year. The development is intended to create a family-friendly recreation space for residents and visitors, adding another option for outdoor activities in the region.

The project has experienced construction interruptions as contractors dealt with unfavourable weather and conditions discovered at the site. Wet weather can complicate civil construction by affecting excavation, earthworks, drainage and the movement of heavy machinery. Unexpected ground conditions can also require adjustments to construction methods and schedules.

The resumption of work is therefore an important development for the project, although the revised opening target remains dependent on construction progressing as planned.

The planned splash park will include water-play facilities designed to provide a recreational attraction for children and families. The wider development will also feature a playground, covered barbecue areas and change rooms, creating a space where visitors can spend time beyond the water-play area itself.

These facilities are expected to make the park useful for a range of community activities, from family outings and informal gatherings to visits during school holidays. Shaded barbecue areas could provide space for families to eat and relax, while the playground would offer an additional attraction for children who want to enjoy the park without using the water facilities.

The project is also significant because public recreational infrastructure can contribute to the appeal of regional towns. Accessible outdoor facilities provide residents with opportunities to spend time together locally rather than travelling to larger centres for every family activity.

Biloela, located in Queensland’s Banana Shire, serves as a regional centre for surrounding communities. A new recreation facility could add to the town’s amenities and provide another destination for local families, particularly during the warmer months.

Funding for the $4.5 million project is being shared by the local council, the Queensland Government and the Queensland Resources Council. This joint funding arrangement brings together local government, state support and industry-linked funding for a community facility.

The collaboration reflects the role that partnerships can play in delivering infrastructure in regional areas, where projects often require several funding sources to reach their full scale. The final outcome will depend on the facility being completed to the required standards and ready for public use.

For local residents, the immediate focus will be on construction progress and whether the end-of-year opening target can be achieved. The restart offers renewed momentum after the setbacks, but no guarantee has been reported that the park will open on a specific day.

Once completed, the splash park is expected to provide Biloela with a new public leisure destination combining water play, playground equipment and family gathering facilities. Its opening would mark the completion of a substantial community investment and give residents another place to enjoy outdoor recreation close to home.
